Psychiatric Nurse (RN) - Portland, Maine in Falmouth, ME

This opportunity is for a registered nurse with psychiatric expertise to work in an intensive care psychiatric unit focused on acute adult mental health. The role requires a calm, professional demeanor along with strong de-escalation skills to support patients experiencing severe psychiatric conditions. Location: Positioned in the Portland, ME area, this ICU specializes in mental health care within a supportive and structured environment. The unit houses six beds and serves patients diagnosed with thought disorders, psychosis, personality disorders, and manic episodes. Qualifications / Desired Experience: • Current RN license with Psychiatric nursing experience • Minimum of 2 years working in acute adult mental health settings • Proficient in de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention • Ability to remain composed and professional under pressure • Comfortable working in a psychiatric ICU environment Schedule / Hours: • Day and evening shifts available • Approximately 36 hours per week with weekend coverage expected • Call duties are not required Responsibilities: • Deliver direct nursing care to psychiatric ICU patients with complex behavioral health conditions • Utilize de-escalation and crisis management to maintain patient and staff safety • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized patient care plans • Maintain compliance with facility policies and professional standards • Communicate effectively with patients and families in a compassionate and professional manner Dress Code: • Business casual attire required • No ripped jeans, shorts, graphic t-shirts, sweatshirts, or open-toed shoes This position is offered on a contract basis and may require floating to other units as needed.
