Job Overview
This position is contingent upon the contract award.
• Provide dedicated inpatient psychiatric nursing care to Veterans, aged 18 and older, in acute mental health settings.
• Conduct and accurately document comprehensive mental health assessments including suicide risk, safety, and withdrawal evaluations.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and update individualized nursing care plans.
• Administer, monitor, and document prescribed medications while observing for effectiveness and side effects.
• Manage psychiatric emergencies and patient safety incidents, applying crisis intervention strategies.
• Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment by utilizing de-escalation techniques and managing disruptive behavior.
• Educate patients and families about mental health issues, medications, treatment plans, and self-management strategies.
• Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the Veterans Affairs Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS).
• Facilitate smooth transitions of care, including discharge planning and follow-up.
• Adhere to Veterans Affairs policies and relevant healthcare regulations.
• Complete all required orientation and training for compliance and quality assurance.
• Provide care for COVID-19 positive patients as necessary.
Additionally, you will complete organizational compliance education, which includes client-specified Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification requirements.
Qualifications
• Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. state or territory.
• Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN.
• A minimum of 2 years of direct patient care experience within the past 3 years as a Psychiatric Registered Nurse.
• At least 2 years of experience in a mental health setting, including recent work within the last 6 months.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited provider.
Education Requirements
• Graduation from an accredited nursing program recognized by appropriate accrediting bodies.
• Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Physical Requirements
• Work typically performed in an office environment.
• Involves sitting and standing for extended periods, some bending and lifting up to 15 lbs.
Other Qualifications
• Proficient in English communication.
• U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
• VA Public Trust Clearance is mandatory.
• Must wear royal blue scrubs and Veterans Affairs-approved identification at all times.
