Department: UPC Inpatient/Geriatrics FTE: 0.90 | Full Time Shift: Nights Position Summary: Join our dedicated team as a professional nurse providing exceptional care for patients in a mental health setting. You will create and implement tailored nursing care plans, ensuring each patient receives comprehensive support on their path to recovery while adhering to hospital policies and procedures. Your role will involve working with patients from pediatric to geriatric age groups. Key Responsibilities: • Patient Care: Conduct interviews and assessments of psychiatric patients with various disorders. • Clinical Observations: Monitor patient behaviors and mental statuses; perform triage and crisis interventions. • Treatment Planning: Write and coordinate treatment plans, administer medications, and facilitate group therapy sessions as needed. • Documentation: Accurately chart observed symptoms and changes in patient conditions; handle data entry when required. • Patient Educator: Guide patients and families on treatment plans and management of side effects, providing emotional support. • Communication: Foster effective communication among physicians, staff, and families; coordinate with various service providers. • Policy Compliance: Adhere to established departmental policies and quality improvement objectives, and maintain safety and infection control standards. • Professional Development: Pursue continued education and actively engage in in-service training and workshops. • Administrative Tasks: Manage various administrative functions; participate in research and propose program changes. • Precepting: Participate in the training and evaluation of new staff members after completing preceptor training. • Emergency Measures: Assist in implementing emergency protocols for patients as necessary. • Medication Administration: Ensure correct medication administration following industry standards. • Environment Safety: Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment in accordance with hospital standards. Qualifications: Education: Required: Graduate from an accredited nursing program. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Experience: Required: None. Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish or other indigenous languages, with at least 1 year of experience. Credentials: Required: CPR for Healthcare Providers within 30 days of hire; RN license in NM or via reciprocal agreement; Aggressive Behavior Certification within 30 days of hire. Physical Requirements: Heavy Work: Exerting significant physical force in the conduct of duties, including lifting and moving patients. Working Conditions: Exposure to physical risks from combative patients, handling chemicals and biohazardous materials. Tuberculosis testing is required upon hire and subsequently as needed.
