Responsibilities This is professional nursing work in the care of patients at the University of South Alabama Hospitals. An employee in a position allocated to this classification is responsible for supervising, planning, evaluating, and coordinating patient care provided by other licensed and non-licensed staff; serving as preceptor for new employees and nursing students; utilizing the nursing process to assess patients; planning individual care; identifying expected outcomes; implementing and evaluating nursing interventions for patients and families; maintains clinical competencies and accept patient assignments as needed to support safe and effective patient careperforming therapeutic procedures and assisting with diagnostic procedures required for the care of the patient; preparing and administering medications as ordered by physicians; accompanying physicians on rounds; serving as a team leader for all patients assigned to a specific team on an assigned shift; and assisting in the development and participating in in-service training programs with subordinate personnel; work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level nursing manager and is reviewed while in progress and upon completion for compliance with established nursing techniques and procedures; assesses patients and plans individual care; identifies expected outcomes; attends meetings; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; performs related duties as required. Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama and current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama. Note: USA Health abides by the NLC requirements and guidelines for the state of Alabama. One year of professional nursing experience.
