The Registered Nurse (RN) in our Cardiac Intensive Care Unit plays a crucial role in improving patient outcomes. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator, you will assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care in accordance with our established protocols. This includes overseeing non-RN personnel, assuming charge nurse responsibilities when needed, and potentially working across other nursing units. Responsibilities • Continuously assess patients' physical and psychosocial conditions throughout their care journey. • Develop, communicate, and document personalized care plans with input from patients, families, and the healthcare team. • Effectively implement and coordinate the care plan in collaboration with the healthcare team. • Evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan, monitor patient responses, and adjust strategies for discharge readiness. • Educate patients and families based on assessed learning needs, documenting the outcomes of educational efforts. • Serve as a preceptor to new nursing staff. • Take on charge nurse duties as required. • Meet performance expectations related to customer service, teamwork, resource management, and professional development. • Perform additional duties as necessary to ensure smooth departmental operations. • Exhibit proficiency in caring for neuro patients. • Demonstrate skill in neuro assessment and airway management. • Provide quality care for patients with tracheostomies, assisting physicians during special neuro procedures. • Understand and implement the 'TIA' teaching program. • Perform suctioning procedures as per established guidelines. • Demonstrate competency in caring for patients in a halo brace. • Fulfills nursing responsibilities and interventions for patients on ventilators. Qualifications EDUCATION Graduated from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. Proficient in utilizing electronic patient records and conducting literature searches online. EXPERIENCE No specific prior experience required. LICENSURE Valid Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut. SPECIAL SKILLS BLS certification is required.
