The Greater Manchester Region has approximately 2,500 employees including the Manchester Memorial Hospital with 249 beds, Rockville General with 102 beds, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services, serving a population of 300,000 in 19 towns.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Registered Nurse in the Special Care Unit, you will report directly to the Clinical Nurse Manager. You will utilize your nursing skills to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team. Your role will involve monitoring patient conditions, responding promptly to any changes, and providing education to patients and their families.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current licensure in the state of Connecticut.
• Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support to be obtained during orientation if not already certified.

COMPETENCIES:
• Effective communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Proficient in basic computer skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and reassessments of patients' medical and surgical conditions.
• Demonstrate knowledge of developmental principles to provide age-appropriate care.
• Utilize appropriate pain management techniques and educate families on pain management.
• Develop and revise individualized care plans based on assessments and responses.
• Ensure correct medication administration and reduce potential errors.
• Maintain a safe environment promoting positive patient outcomes.
• Document nursing processes and responses timely and accurately.
• Exhibit flexibility, organization, and critical thinking in stressful situations.
• Create effective teaching plans based on identified learning needs.
• Demonstrate autonomy and pursue ongoing professional development.
• Provide accurate reports during care transfers.
• Identify cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to ACLS protocols.
