Job Description
Summary:
The Operating Room Circulator RN is a critical member of the surgical team, responsible for managing patient care throughout the perioperative process. As the primary patient advocate in the OR, the Circulating RN ensures a safe, sterile, and supportive environment, coordinating all aspects of care before, during, and after surgery. This role involves close collaboration with surgeons, anesthesia providers, scrub techs, and other perioperative staff.
Location: Hospital - Operating Room Circulator
Key Responsibilities:
• Assess, prepare, and position patients for surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
• Verify surgical consent, patient identity, and site marking according to hospital policies.
• Set up the operating room with necessary equipment, supplies, and instrumentation.
• Monitor and document intraoperative patient care, including vital signs, medication administration, and fluid management.
• Maintain a sterile field by managing traffic flow and supporting proper aseptic technique.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and coordinate timely delivery of required items.
• Act as a liaison between the surgical team, anesthesia, and other hospital departments.
• Provide emotional support and information to patients and families before and after surgery.
• Assist with room turnover and preparation for subsequent cases.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) and adhere to all regulatory and safety standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• A bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) is preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience; recent OR circulator experience
• CNOR certification is a plus
• Strong understanding of surgical asepsis, patient safety, and OR protocols
• Excellent organizational, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
Type: full-time contract employment 13-14 weeks with possibility to extend.
