Roles & Responsibilities
• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to patients of all ages in the emergency/acute care setting
• Assess patients, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate outcomes
• Coordinate care and communicate clearly with physicians, ancillary departments, patients and families
• Supervise and delegate to CNAs/Techs to ensure high-quality, efficient patient care
• Respond calmly and decisively in emergencies; make independent clinical decisions when needed
• Transcribe and clarify physician orders and ensure accurate EMR documentation
• Maintain infection control practices and uphold patient rights and safety at all times
• Participate in department meetings, contribute to policy/procedure development, and help train staff
Qualifications
• Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska OR a license from another U.S. state (agency staff must have an active Alaska license; direct hires should have applied for Alaska licensure prior to start)
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (must be obtained within 6 months of hire if not current)
• TNCC preferred for ED nurses
• Clinical Competency assessment and High Risk Competency as required by employer (timelines specified by employer)
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• No prior experience required, though acute care, ED, or long-term care experience is preferred
Education
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing: BSN, ADN, or Nursing Diploma
• High school diploma or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
• Solid knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, and documentation
• Comfort with EMR documentation and accurate report writing
• Strong assessment, triage, and emergency response skills
• Ability to supervise, delegate, and work collaboratively across departments
• Good judgment, emotional resilience, and the ability to make independent clinical decisions
• Familiarity with infection control principles and patient safety standards
• Clear communication skills with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
