Pay: $35.29 - $54.71 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience
Summary:
As a Registered Nurse Forensic Specialist, you will conduct comprehensive forensic examinations for individuals impacted by violence, including sexual assault victims. You will also provide essential patient care and make appropriate referrals.
Responsibilities:
• Perform thorough medical history assessments and gather accounts of incidents from patients. Evaluate the psychological state of patients and conduct physical examinations.
• Expertly collect, preserve, and document all relevant evidence and findings.
• Deliver direct nursing care for injuries and administer prophylactic medications. Refer patients to the appropriate facilities or personnel for further treatment as necessary.
• Maintain clear and compassionate communication with victims and their families regarding evidence collection, treatment recommendations, and reporting to law enforcement, ensuring informed decision-making. Provide advocacy for victims and serve as an expert witness in court proceedings.
Requirements:
• Graduation from an accredited or state board of nursing approved Registered/Professional Nursing program.
• Completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training within 3 months of hire.
• State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, with certification in hand prior to the start date. BLS or CPR card must remain valid for at least sixty days post-hire.
• A minimum of 1 year of RN experience or 6 months as an Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife). Preferred: 3 years of RN experience in an acute care/hospital setting.
