
Registered Nurse, Hospice in Bird Island, MN

ABOUT THE JOB
Olivia Hospital & Clinic is looking for a Registered Nurse to provide care in our Hospice department. This position provides general nursing care to terminally ill patients. The Hospice RN also assists in planning, implementation, documentation and coordination of patient care services to Hospice patients and families and/or significant others. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position working 32 hours per week from 8:00am to 4:30pm, with rotating on-call and weekend call responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
• Assess, guide, oversee, and develop the implementation of the nursing care plan.
• Collaborate with physicians, families, hospice team and patients to develop and implement the appropriate care.
• Assist families and/or significant others in understanding patients’ illness.
• Teach and evaluate personal care techniques in a home setting.
• Provide and supervise the care given to patients and their families, ensuring that it is delivered in a manner that preserves and protects the patient’s autonomy, dignity, and rights.
• Document care given to patients so that costs and services provided are recorded accurately.
• Help patients and families/significant others understand provisions of Hospice Medicare Benefit.
• Act under the direction of the Hospice Director and/or the Physician.
• Use models of patient care standards, physician preference, hospice policies and procedures, Minnesota Department of Health Guidelines, CDC, CMS, and OSHA standards. Also use safe methods of handling medical equipment and supplies.
• Oversee the care delivered by the hospice aide.
ABOUT YOU
• 1+ year of nursing practice experience
• Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with an associate’s degree in nursing
• Current RN licensure with the State of Minnesota
• BLS/CPR Certification
• Ability to manage emergency situations appropriately
• Ability to act and make decisions independently based on the values of Olivia Hospital & Clinic
• Strong critical thinking skills
• Effective communication skills
