Registered Nurse - ICU Float in Fairfield, CT

As a Registered Nurse in the ICU Float Unit, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our patients. This position reports to the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising individual patient care in accordance with unit policies and procedures. You will also oversee non-RN personnel and, when in a charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities. Flexibility to work across various nursing units may be required based on staff and patient distribution. Responsibilities • Continuously assess the patient's physical and psychosocial conditions throughout their care journey. • Develop and communicate a personalized plan of care that addresses individual patient needs, involving the patient, family, and healthcare team in the process. • Implement and coordinate the plan of care in collaboration with the healthcare team. • Evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan, patient responses, and readiness for discharge, revising the plan as necessary and making referrals when indicated. • Assess individual learning needs and readiness of patients and families, providing educational opportunities and documenting outcomes. • Serve as a preceptor to new staff members. • Take on charge nurse responsibilities when needed. • Meet performance expectations related to customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development as outlined in your performance review. • Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the unit. • Demonstrate competency in caring for neuro patients. • Exhibit skills and knowledge in neuro assessments and airway management for neuro patients. • Provide care for patients with tracheostomies and assist physicians during special neuro procedures. • Understand and teach our 'TIA' program. • Perform suctioning, including pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy, per established policies. • Demonstrate proficiency in using equipment and caring for patients in halo braces. • Understand the nursing responsibilities and interventions for patients on ventilators. Qualifications Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and internet literature searches related to patient care. Experience: N/A Licensure: Valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License. Special Skills: BLS certification required.
