## Key Role Overview
Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care in the Short Stay Unit (9C) at the Main Hospital. The RN delivers safe, effective nursing care using the nursing process, collaborates with the interdisciplinary health care team, and supports patient throughput in a short-stay inpatient setting.
## What are the Key Responsibilities?
- Provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families using the principles and practices of the nursing process.
- Deliver safe and effective care and collaborate with other members of the health care team to achieve desired patient outcomes.
- Perform patient assessments, documentation, care planning, and clinical interventions appropriate to the RN II competency level.
- Assist with patient mobility and transfers, including lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs unassisted and performing necessary positioning as required.
- Respond to clinical emergencies and maintain required certifications (e.g., BLS).
- Work assigned shifts (scheduled weekly hours 36) and be available for rotating shifts and overtime as required.
## What are the Required Qualifications?
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or AHA-recognized equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider).
- Ability to meet physical and mental requirements: standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working from elevated areas, working in confined spaces, bending, twisting, performing fine and gross motor tasks, reaching, repetitive motions, using lower extremities for balance/coordination, and lifting/exerting up to 50 lbs as described.
- Ability to maintain vision (20/40 corrected), hearing acuity, tactile sensory functions, and to work effectively under stressful situations.
- RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
