
Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery (PRN) in Iowa, LA
Job Description
Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and competent Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Labor and Delivery team. In this role, you will provide essential care for patients during their labor experience, utilizing your nursing skills in complex and routine situations. You will be expected to demonstrate strong clinical judgment, develop long-term care plans, and effectively manage various nursing scenarios while supporting your colleagues.
Responsibilities:
• Exceed expectations by demonstrating leadership skills as a self-leader, leader of others, or leader of leaders.
• Provide exceptional nursing care consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for patients.
• Address diverse and complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and their families.
• Administer medications and treatments using established protocols; monitor effectiveness and manage any side effects.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient histories, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
• Identify and assess the learning needs of patients and their families, providing necessary education and resources.
Job Requirements:
Education/Skills
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
Experience
• A minimum of 1 year of experience in a related nursing specialty is preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
• BLS certification is mandatory.
• Active RN License in state of employment or compact.
Position Requirements:
Education/Skills
• All newly hired experienced RNs are required to attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
• New hires will be paired with a designated trained staff member for preceptorship, and initial onboarding will be validated through successful completion of organizational entry competency validation.
• Completion of annual competency verification requirements is a must.
Experience
• Experience in a Perinatal RN Residency or recent practice in a Perinatal Setting is preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
• Current certification in one of the following: AWHONN Intermediate FHM, AWHONN Intermediate FHM Instructor, AWHONN Advanced FHM Instructor, AWHONN Instructor Trainer, or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM).
• Current NRP certification required.
• Current ACLS certification required.
All Associates must obtain required certifications for their positions within the designated timeframe as outlined by CHRISTUS Health guidelines.
Credential Grace Periods:
Grace periods for obtaining certifications are available based on your experience level.
• Associates with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years are considered an Experienced Associate.
• Those lacking at least one year of full-time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past three years are categorized as an Experienced Associate New to the Specialty.
