The Wisconsin School for the Deaf (WSD) within the Division of Access and Opportunity is seeking applicants for a Registered Nurse position. This is a part-time, school year position (70% full time equivalency). WSD is a vibrant, residential school dedicated to serving students who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind. In this role, the registered nurse provides nursing care to students with unique health needs and supports them in managing their care independently. Nurses at WSD collaborate across departments, work creatively and autonomously, and gain valuable experience in American Sign Language (ASL) and deaf culture while working directly with students. Position Summary This position provides comprehensive healthcare to students and staff, promoting safety and wellness within the school setting and contributing to the overall health counseling and support of students and staff. For more information, please view the complete position description. Salary Information This position is in the classification of Nurse Clinician 2. This position is in pay schedule 11, range 02. A one-year probationary period will be required. Depending on full years of Registered Nurse licensure, the salary will be between $42.86 - $49.61 per hour (approximately $62,404 - $72,232 per year, adjusted for the 0.70 FTE). For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan effective at time of hire. See chart below to determine expected base hourly rate. Night/weekend differentials are available. Years of Licensure Pay Rate 0 $42.86 3 $45.06 5 $46.19 7 $47.33 9 $48.48 11 $49.61 • Placement and progression are based on full years of professional nursing experience as established by the nurse license granting date (i.e., DSPS licensure date). • Employees who work between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. will receive a night differential of $1.40 per hour worked. • Employees who are permanently assigned to night shift between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. will receive an additional $2.50 per hour worked (in addition to the $1.40 per hour mentioned directly above). • Employees will receive a weekend differential of $0.80 per hour for all weekend work hours (i.e., work hours on Saturday and Sunday). A sign-on bonus of $3,000 will be offered to eligible employees. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a $1.00 per hour add-on for fluency in American Sign Language (ASL), contingent upon achieving an ASL Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) rating of 2+ or higher. This position offers excellent benefits. The State of Wisconsin is a qualifying employer for the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Job Details Special notes: This is a 0.70 FTE school-year overnight position. Typical hours are approximately 7:00pm to 7:00am, with the school year generally running from late August through June. Specific days and schedule details will be discussed during the interview process. Candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse with the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. Eligibility means the candidate is currently licensed in another state and qualifies for a Wisconsin Registered Nurse license. Wisconsin licensure must be obtained by time of appointment. An American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) rating of 1+ at the end of probation is required. For more information regarding this licensure requirements and to check eligibility, please check the WI Department of Safety and Professional Services website concerning Registered Nurse Licensure. Remote Work: This position is not eligible for remote work and requires the employee to be onsite at their headquarters on the WI School for the Deaf campus in Delavan, WI, during all regular working hours. Travel: This position does not require travel. Headquarters: The position is headquartered at the WI School for the Deaf campus located at 309 West Walworth Avenue in Delavan, WI. Reimbursement for traveling to or from the employee’s headquarters is not provided (e.g., mileage, meals, parking, lodging, etc.). Pre-hire requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted prior to an offer of hire. A TB screen will be required prior to start. Legal authorization: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., without DPI sponsorship).
