Job Summary
The MDS Nurse takes independent initiative in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating activities of the professional and supportive nursing staff involved in creating a comprehensive plan of care for each resident. This role evaluates the care provided to residents, ensuring care plans are up-to-date. The MDS Nurse plays a leading role in the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) process and assists in assessing potential admissions while completing required resident assessments upon admission, quarterly, and annually.
This position involves collaboration with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams, including medical providers, to ensure optimal quality of life for each resident. While functioning on the floor, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for applying the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to deliver individualized nursing care to patients. The RN demonstrates expertise within the full scope of nursing practice and adheres to age and population-specific standards as necessary.
The RN may serve as charge nurse, delegating tasks to both licensed and unlicensed personnel based on established job descriptions, skills, and resident care needs. Providing support to delegates is crucial to ensure safe and effective resident care.
The RN operates within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules relevant to state licensure. The role emphasizes adherence to the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses endorsed by the American Nurses Association.
Qualifications
We prefer graduates from a National League of Nursing (NLN) or American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) accredited nursing program, with a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing being preferred. At least one year of experience working as a licensed nurse with senior populations is ideal, and having a Resident Assessment Coordinator-Certified (RAC-CT) certification, or management or supervisory experience is a plus.
The candidate must possess an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing in the state of practice or multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Continuous education units (CEUs) and competency training must be maintained. Affiliation with a professional nursing organization is preferred.
Benefits
The Good Samaritan offers a competitive benefits package for qualifying full-time and part-time employees. Depending on eligibility, a variety of benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, work/life balance benefits, and a generous time off package aimed to support a healthy work-life balance.
The Good Samaritan is an EEO/AA Employer M/F/Disability/Vet. The Good Samaritan adheres to a Drug-Free Workplace Policy; an accepted offer requires a drug screening and pre-employment background check.
