Registered Nurse - Medical Respiratory ICU - Temporary in Anderson, SD

In this temporary 12-week assignment, the registered nurse delivers direct, age-specific care to patients with multisystem organ failure, complex pulmonary needs like COPD, ARDS, status asthmaticus, pneumonia, sepsis, GI bleeds, DKA, and renal liver dysfunction. Responsibilities include administering prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities, and working with an interprofessional team to apply evidence-based practices. Patients in a 28-bed ICU benefit from this role's focus on ventilator management, invasive procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.VCU Health functions as an academic medical center in Virginia, specializing in critical care for medical and pulmonary conditions requiring advanced interventions. The system supports 28-bed adult ICUs with resources like ventilators, monitors, and procedural equipment. Staffing includes 1:1 and 1:2 ratios, charge nurses, unlicensed assistants, and unit secretaries operating 24/7.Nurses integrate technical skills with theoretical knowledge to prevent illness, maintain wellness, and provide comfort based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans. Activities encompass delivering care, recognizing changes in patient status, mobilizing resources, and providing education at the unit level. Tools include ventilators, infusion pumps, monitoring systems, and electronic health records. Work structures involve shift rotations across days, rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as required. One challenge is managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, noisy environment with exposure to hazardous substances.This night-shift temporary role offers experience-based levels from Clinical Nurse I with no required experience to Clinical Nurse III with 3 years. Locations are in the Critical Care Hospital on the 4th floor. Compensation includes salary aligned with experience, with a preferred completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing within five years if not held.
