MS / Tele Registered Nurse Job Description MS / Tele Registered Nurse Job Summary A Travel Registered Nurse specializing in Medical-Surgical / Telemetry (MS / Tele) is needed to provide patient care on a telemetry-equipped unit. The RN will monitor patients, administer medications, and collaborate with the healthcare team. Must be comfortable with a diverse patient population, including those undergoing gender affirmation surgery. The candidate must successfully pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with a minimum overall score of 80% and a score of 100% on lethal rhythms. Floating to lower acuity units will be required. Key Responsibilities Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients on a Medical-Surgical / Telemetry unit. Monitor patient telemetry and vital signs. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed. Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans. Perform central line care / management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, and initiate / maintain IVs. Manage dysrhythmias, use rapid response / code teams, and administer blood products. Provide feeding tube care and management. Perform Pre / Post Hemodialysis Management Manage heparin protocols and PCA. Provide care for patients with total joint replacements and surgical drains. Manage and maintain chest tubes (Emerson / PleurEvac). Manage BiPAP / CPAP. Perform tracheostomy care / management. Adhere to isolation precautions and PPE guidelines. Provide wound care and wound vac management. Accurately document patient care and observations. Float to other units of equivalent or lower level of acuity. Required Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience in MS / Tele nursing. Must have 1 prior travel assignment Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland or Compact License. BLS and NIH certifications Ability to pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam with a minimum overall score of 80% and a score of 100% on lethal rhythms. RTO must be included at the time of submittal and cannot be changed once the profile has been sent to the manager for review. Amount of RTO : No more than 7 days per 13-week contract. Licensure (Required at Time of Submission) DC Locations : Must have a DC license in hand. Some units will accept a pending DC license (see job description to confirm). A later start date may be accepted if the traveler has applied for DC licensure. MD Locations : Must have either a compact license or an MD license. Return Staff Policy Nurses with previous MedStar employment must have been separated for a minimum of one year before returning as a traveler. Any traveler questions should be directed to the AM. References Two (2) supervisor references are required. Compliance Requirements Candidates are assigned facility-and unit-specific Sitel modules upon hire, which must be completed within one week of signing their contract. Failure to complete them within this timeframe may result in cancellation. Labs and DS appointment must be completed within 48 hours of signing.
