Department Overview

Our neonatal program is the largest in the Midwest. We provide the full scope of care for infants needing intensive care. At the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Campus, our inter-disciplinary team of over 500 professionals is dedicated to the care of babies with life-changing diagnoses. We specialize in caring for infants needing level III and level IV intensive care, including babies born prematurely or with birth defects, congenital heart disease, genetic disorders or medical disorders; babies who need extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO); babies needing body cooling, and any baby needing surgery. We care for babies requiring complex care, such as hemodynamic monitoring, critical medication management, maintenance of systemic perfusion and management of organ failure. We are part of the Mother Baby Center in Minneapolis at Abbott Northwestern Hospital, which includes a large high-risk delivery service, a fetal surgery program and a perinatal clinic. The Children’s Minneapolis NICU is a 44-bed level III and level IV unit, and is supported by a step-down level II infant care center and special care nursery. Our team balances a highly technical skill set with a family-centered approach. Position Summary

Coordinates and provides family-centered nursing care to infants, children and adolescents, utilizing the nursing process. Accountable for professional practice including independent nursing functions and delegated medical functions performed in collaboration with other health team members.

THIS IS AN MNA CONTRACT POSITION.

Education Requirements:
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Minnesota RN licensure.
• Current BLS certification.

NRP preferred. Current (minimum of 1 year within the last 2 years) NICU experience which includes ability to care for infants: requiring assisted ventilation, surgical cases per and post op, and pre-term infants where strong knowledge of developmental care is expected.
Float Team or PICU RNs who are able to demonstrate Neonatal Competencies with these same patient types will be evaluated and considered to meet Level 3 qualifications.

An informational meeting with the Patient Care Manager is required prior to awarding the position.
• Based upon the unit in which you are applying, additional certification(s) may be required. Department specific required qualifications need to be obtained within 6 months of employment.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required or obtained during orientation.

When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
