Job Description

Summary:
As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for patient assessment, care planning, and delivering high-quality nursing care to a designated group of patients over a defined work period. You will provide supervision and direction to LVN/LPNs, nursing assistants, and other staff as necessary. Depending on the assignment, you may also take on the role of charge nurse for your unit, catering to patients across various age groups, including older adolescents, young adults, adults, geriatric, and pediatric patients.

Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate leadership skills in alignment with OneCHRISTUS Competencies.
• Develop and implement comprehensive nursing care plans to address the needs of patients identified during assessments.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to prepare and update nursing elements of care plans.
• Prioritize care based on patient acuity and needs, ensuring safe and effective implementation of care plans.
• Continuously evaluate patient responses to interventions and document progress daily.
• Assess the educational needs of patients and their families, adapting teaching resources as necessary.
• Maintain open, effective communication with all care team members while documenting patient conditions accurately.
• Proactively identify and report unsafe practices while suggesting alternatives to improve patient safety.

• Utilization of the Nursing Process: Use critical thinking to assess patient needs and develop individualized care plans based on evidence-based practice.
• Patient Throughput: Plan for admission, discharge, and transfer needs to promote efficient patient flow.
• Unit Operations: Oversee nursing care and departmental staffing needs, fostering a team-oriented environment.
• Safe Practice: Adhere to regulations and guidelines promoting patient safety and quality care.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
• Follow established policies and clinical procedures, and actively participate in enhancing them.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness in health information documentation.
• Utilize medical equipment safely and provide education on home medical devices.
• Process medical orders efficiently while tracking and addressing discrepancies.
• Interpret patient charts and respond to unusual findings appropriately.
• Ensuring safety protocols are followed for various patient groups, addressing any safety inquiries promptly.

Job Requirements:
• Education/Skills: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.
• Experience: Six months to a year of experience as a licensed RN or holder of an active Graduate Nurse permit.
• Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: BLS certification required; RN license in the state of employment or compact is mandatory. Graduate Nurse Permit holders must transition to a new position after unsuccessful licensure applications or after the 75th day following the effective date of the temporary permit.

In accordance with CHRISTUS Health policies, all staff must obtain the necessary certifications within designated timeframes.
