POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Registered Nurse in Maternity Services, you will report to the Clinical Nurse Manager and provide exceptional direct and indirect patient-centered care. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, patients, and families to ensure coordinated patient care. Effectively communicate patient conditions and respond swiftly to changes in health status. Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles to deliver age-appropriate care. Promote nursing as a profession through supportive interactions.
Qualifications:
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
• Current Connecticut Nursing License.
• Prior LDRP experience is a plus.
• ACLS and NRP certifications required upon hire or to be obtained within one year, alongside maintenance of clinical competencies.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support certification is required upon hire or within introductory orientation.
• Electric Fetal Monitoring Certification must be obtained within one year of hire.
COMPETENCIES:
• Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
• Basic computer proficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and reassessments of maternal and newborn conditions, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, cultural, and spiritual needs.
• Assess and manage pain, documenting interventions and educational efforts regarding pain management.
• Develop and adjust individualized care plans, involving patients and families in goal setting.
• Ensure safe medication administration while adhering to established protocols.
• Perform all patient care aspects, including Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn care, in a safe environment.
• Document all nursing processes and patient responses accurately and promptly.
• Exhibit flexibility, organization, and critical thinking under stress.
• Implement educational plans for patients and families based on their learning needs, evaluating the effectiveness of teaching.
• Demonstrate autonomous practice aligned with evidence-based standards while being a role model and mentor.
• Understand age-specific needs of patients and deliver appropriate care through data interpretation.
• Provide comprehensive patient status reports for safe transitions of care.
• Maintain competencies in fetal monitoring, identifying and responding to FHR patterns.
• Recognize indications of newborn transition issues and support families effectively.
