Job Description
Job Summary The Registered Nurse – Operating Room (OR) provides specialized perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role includes preparing the operating room environment, assisting the surgical team during procedures, monitoring patient status, and ensuring adherence to sterile techniques and safety protocols. The RN in the OR plays a critical role in promoting positive patient outcomes through expert clinical care and teamwork .
Responsibilities:
Prepare the operating room for surgical cases by ensuring all necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment are ready and sterile.^Perform patient assessments before, during, and after surgery to monitor vital signs, anesthesia effects, and overall condition.^Assist surgeons and other team members during procedures by passing instruments, managing supplies, and anticipating needs.^Maintain sterile fields and ensure strict adherence to infection control practices.^Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety.^Provide patient education and emotional support before and after surgery.^Document all perioperative care activities accurately in the patient’s medical record.^Participate in the postoperative transfer of patients to recovery areas and communicate relevant information to recovery room staff.^Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
