Utilizing the nursing process, the RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and efficient surgical experiences. The RN in this role supports pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care within a fast-paced environment focused on patient comfort, safety, and education. Essential FunctionsProvides pre-operative nursing assessment and education to patients and familiesAssists in preparing patients for surgery including IV starts, pre-medication, and documentationMonitors patient condition during recovery and post-anesthesia careCoordinates discharge planning and provides clear post-operative instructionsCollaborates with surgical and interdisciplinary teams to ensure timely patient flowDocuments patient care clearly and accurately in compliance with standardsAdvocates for the safety, privacy, and comfort of all surgical patientsKnowledge/Skills/Abilities/ExpectationsStrong assessment and critical thinking skillsAbility to manage multiple patients in a high-volume, fast-paced outpatient settingEffective communication and teamwork abilitiesFamiliarity with outpatient surgery protocols and infection control standardsProficiency in electronic medical records (EMR)Committed to quality improvement and patient-centered carePhysical ability to perform required duties, including prolonged standing and assisting in patient mobilityMaintains compliance with all regulatory and institutional policiesAttends required training and maintains current certifications and clinical competencies
EducationGraduate of an accredited School of NursingBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferredLicenses/CertificationsCurrent and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practiceBasic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (required within time frame specified in facility policy)Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (required within timeframe specified in facility policy)ExperienceMinimum of one year of clinical nursing experience preferredPrevious experience in an outpatient surgery, ambulatory surgery center, or perioperative environment strongly preferred
