NOW HIRING!! A-Line is seeking Registered Nurses on a PRN schedule in Newtown, CT with 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift available! The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Department of Correction is responsible for providing professional nursing and/or mental health care to an inmate population. This role supports inmate rehabilitation and may include targeted infection control services. The RN practices independently within established protocols while collaborating with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to ensure safe, ethical, and high-quality care.

Registered Nurse (RN) – Per Diem / PRN

Pay: $60–$65 per hour
Schedule: PRN / Per Diem – No set schedule
Shifts Available: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift
Weekends: Varied
Orientation: Monday, February 9 – Wednesday, February 11
Contract Length: Estimated 3-month contract with potential for extension

Supervision
• Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of a higher-level employee.
• Supervision Exercised: May provide lead or supervisory guidance to paraprofessionals and non-nursing staff as assigned.

Essential Duties – Health Services
• Independently implement the nursing process, including carrying out physician orders related to medication, diet, and treatment
• Perform nursing assessments and routine tests
• Change dressings and monitor wound care
• Observe, evaluate, and ensure quality of care
• Monitor and report physiological and mental health status of inmates
• Document nursing interventions accurately in medical records
• Distribute, secure, and maintain records of controlled medications
• Maintain records and prepare reports as required
• Make clinical decisions in routine cases
• Educate inmates and staff on treatments, nursing care plans, and health or mental health topics
• Respond to medical and mental health emergencies
• Ensure availability of medications, supplies, and clean equipment
• Coordinate pre-certification, admission, and discharge of inmates to/from acute care facilities as needed
• Formulate and implement nursing care plans
• Delegate nursing tasks in accordance with established protocols
• Conduct daily sick call
• Participate in psychotherapeutic and rehabilitation interventions
• Assist correctional and mental health staff during emergencies, including physically restraining inmates when required
• Perform related duties as assigned

Essential Duties – Infection Control (as assigned)
• Independently implement infection prevention and control services
• Conduct infection control assessments and chart reviews
• Monitor and track infectious diseases including HIV, TB, MRSA, and others
• Analyze infection trends across time and facilities
• Provide infection prevention education and training to inmates
• Assess inmate knowledge of infection prevention practices
• Identify inmates nearing re-entry for targeted infection prevention education
• Develop and disseminate educational materials and community-based resource information
• Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
• Assist during emergencies as needed
• Perform related duties as required
