We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties and offer LIFE STAR helicopter services. The E3 unit is a combined telemetry and Progressive Care Unit, featuring 25 beds and a collaborative team of nurses and healthcare professionals trained to deliver the highest standard of care. Our team specializes in treating complex stroke, vascular, neurological patients, and those recovering from specialty surgeries, all through patient-centered approaches that focus on healing.
JOB SUMMARY
As a Registered Nurse, you will apply your clinical expertise through the nursing process while fostering a synergistic relationship with patients. You will be responsible for assessing patient needs, developing comprehensive care plans, implementing treatment, and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions.
• Graduate of a School of Nursing. BSN preferred.
• One (1) year of RN experience or successful completion of the Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program. Two (2) or more years in a similar clinical area preferred.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications within 90 days of hire.
• Pass the dysrhythmia test within 3 months of hire.
• Pass the BKAT with a score of at least 80% or complete a critical care course within one (1) year of hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain specific department certifications; Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred.

Demonstrated understanding of key nursing principles and practices. Ability to effectively read, understand, and communicate detailed instructions and complex information. Strong interpersonal skills are crucial for successful collaboration with colleagues, physicians, managers, and patients. You should be adept at managing multiple priorities, adaptable, and an effective team player, even in stressful situations. A commitment to excellent customer service is essential. Basic computer proficiency is necessary for data entry and retrieval.
You will need a high level of analytical ability to gather and interpret information from various sources, and respond appropriately to changes, challenges, and emergencies. Maintaining confidentiality is critical.
