A Critical Care Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) who renders individualized comprehensive nursing care to meet the patients physical, psychological, spiritual, social, cultural and educational needs. The Critical Care Float Pool RN provides the best possible preventative, supportive, and rehabilitative nursing care to each patient based upon the nursing process and in accordance with hospital policy and procedure. The Float Department RN functions under the oversight and direction of the Nursing Supervisor. Assignment responsibilities with full patient assignment will be specific to critical care patients in ICU, Intermediate Care Unit, or Emergency Room.
Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled and/or as needed, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
Assess patient environment for any safety risks and/or non-compliance with regulatory standards.
Reports any indications of abuse or neglect to medical provider(s), nurse leader, and/or appropriate agency.
Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
Perform exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Teach patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
Manage a care team, providing oversight and delegation to members as appropriate.
Manage evidence-based practices and continuous process improvement initiatives to meet and exceed quality measures and enhance the exceptional care provided to patients.
Manage the quality of care by collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate, evaluate, customize, and deliver a holistic patient treatment plan that promotes and supports recovery.
Manage the continuation of care by serving as the interface between healthcare providers and community support systems who coordinate ongoing care needs for specialized patient groups.
Registered Nurse – State of Alaska
Associate Degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred.
One year of clinical nursing experience in a hospital critical care unit or emergency department
