About the position We are currently filling an RN vacancy in one of our Staten Island Residential Programs for adults with developmental disabilities. This position is one location only, and is a full-time scheduled positions based on the needs of the specific program. SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor or Program Director, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing services for individuals living in ADAPT Community Network’s residential programs. Working as part of an interdisciplinary team, the RN delivers direct care, develops and implements individualized health care plans, trains and supervises staff, and ensures compliance with all applicable standards and regulations. The RN supports individuals in achieving the highest possible quality of life while maintaining dignity, safety, and independence. Responsibilities • Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary team, coordinating and following through on the provision of health care services across assigned residences. • Develops, implements, monitors, and revises individualized health care plans in collaboration with physicians, guardians, and staff. • Provides direct nursing care, including first aid, medication administration (when appropriate), and oversight of medical emergencies. • Supervises and trains AMAP-certified staff in safe medication administration practices, ensuring compliance with agency policies and regulatory standards. • Conducts staff training on personal hygiene, infection control, adaptive equipment, vital signs, recognizing illness, first aid, and other health-related areas. • Manages infection control procedures, including identification, assessment, reporting, and implementation of protective and preventive measures. • Maintains accurate and up-to-date health records, including examinations, immunizations, progress notes, accidents, illnesses, and follow-up recommendations. • Coordinates, schedules, and tracks medical and specialty appointments, ensuring appropriate follow-up and continuity of care. • Provides nursing oversight for quarterly and annual examinations, as well as participation in interdisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and annual reviews. • Monitors staff health requirements and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. • Supervises and provides guidance to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and less experienced RNs. • Oversees the progress of the people we support toward self-administration of medication, providing training and evaluation as needed. • Reviews diagnostic reports and consults with physicians and specialists to support health outcomes for the people we support. • Ensures the people we support have appropriate adaptive equipment and that it is well maintained. • Maintains strict confidentiality of all residential medical information and records. • Keeps current with trends, practices, and advances in nursing and developmental disability care. • Responds promptly to emergencies, remaining on-call via phone when not on scheduled shift, as assigned. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements • Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing. • Associate's Degree (if completed before 2017) -or- Bachelor's Degree Required. • At least one year of nursing experience, preferably in community-based health services or with individuals with developmental disabilities. • Current license and registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New York. • CPR/BLS certification required. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Strong organizational and time management skills. • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with the people we support, families, colleagues, and external providers. • Proficiency with electronic medical records and computer-based documentation. • Must maintain confidentiality at all times. • Knowledge of adaptive devices, mobility supports, and medical equipment commonly used by individuals with developmental disabilities. • Flexibility to work at various program sites as needed. • Passion for ADAPT's mission and demonstrates a commitment to the non-profit disability sector.
