Overview:
The ideal candidate will be experienced in phone triage nursing and have superior communication skills. Keyboarding and computer skills are a must to dictate information from calls to the medical record. Registered nurses provide mental and developmental illness management and health promotion for patients and families who require care via phone. An ability to remain calm during stressful conversations is required.
Registered nurses utilize nursing processes and knowledge of scientific principles to provide safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age appropriate nursing care for patients. Registered staff nurses provide patient and family education and advocate for their needs. This position will be a phone position, with very limited clinical care required. Knowledge of prior authorization and handling general provider and parent requests which are received via telephone or message center contact desired.
Previous experience with triage:
• Critical thinking skills
• Ability to determine the issue or situation within the first few sentences of a conversation
• Superior verbal communication skills are essential
• Strong assessment skills
• Crisis intervention skills
• Teaching ability through telephone conversation, as patients may require instruction for self-care and/or symptom management
