As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the ICU Float staff, you will work under the guidance of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individual patient care according to unit policies and procedures. You will also supervise non-RN personnel and, when in a charge role, delegate and oversee unit activities. Flexibility is key, as you may be required to support other nursing units based on staff and patient distribution. Your contributions will help maintain our high service standards.
Responsibilities
• Continuously assess the patient's physical and psychosocial condition throughout their care journey.
• Develop, communicate, and document a personalized plan of care reflecting each patient's specific needs, involving the patient, family, and healthcare team.
• Implement and coordinate the plan of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care, the patient's response, and discharge readiness. Adjust the plan of care as necessary and make referrals as warranted.
• Plan educational opportunities based on the assessed learning needs of the patient and family, document outcomes effectively.
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff, enhancing team capabilities.
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities as needed.
• Meet performance expectations relating to customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and personal and professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned to ensure efficient department/unit operations.
• Exhibit competency in the care of neuro patients, including assessments and airway management.
• Demonstrate skills in caring for patients with tracheostomies and during neuro procedures.
• Understand and utilize the 'TIA' teaching program effectively.
• Conduct pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy suctioning per established policies.
• Care for patients in halo braces, demonstrating the necessary skills.
• Manage nursing responsibilities for patients on ventilators.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited nursing school is required; a BSN is preferred. Proficiency in utilizing computer software, including electronic patient records, is essential. Candidates should be adept at conducting literature searches online to enhance patient care.
EXPERIENCE:
1 year of acute nursing experience is required.
LICENSURE:
A valid Connecticut Registered Nurse License is necessary for this position.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
BLS certification is required.
Additional Information:
1 year of acute RN experience is required.
Critical Care or Emergency experience is preferred.
