Unit Details

The Neonatal ICU at Med Star Georgetown University Hospital, a five-time designated Magnet® hospital, is a 36-bed unit which provides expert nursing care for infants with many critical diagnoses. It is one of two Level IV NICUs in Washington, D.C., which is the highest level designated by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Some of the most seen diagnoses are:
• Respiratory Distress Syndrome
• Extreme Prematurity
• Neonatal Encephalopathy
• Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension
• Sepsis/Septic Shock
• Neurological Disorders
• Genetic and/or Metabolic Disorders
• Gastrointestinal Disorders
• Surgical needs

Ours is the only NICU in the Washington, D.C. region where a Clinical Nurse can participate in high-risk deliveries, be trained as an ECMO tech and participate in both flight and ground transports. Our NICU is the major referral center for all Med Star-affiliated facilities, as well as several community hospitals in the tri-state area. The NICU offers the following innovative treatments and technologies:
• ECMO:
Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation
• Total Body Therapeutic Hypothermia
• Bedside Patent Ductus Arteriosus Ligation
• Inhaled Nitric Oxide
• High Frequency Oscillator Ventilation
• High Frequency Jet Ventilation

The NICU Nursing Staff is incredibly engaged, with a remarkable number of nurses participating in Shared Governance and the Clinical Advancement Program. The following committees/councils are Clinical Nurse-led and driven:
• Parent Advisory Support Group
• Practice Council
• Scheduling Committee
• Bereavement Committee
• Developmental Care Committee
• Various scheduling options available:
Full-Time Rotating Shifts, Full-Time Fixed Night Shifts, and PRN*

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse, you will provide skilled, compassionate care to patients and families across a spectrum of needs—from routine to highly complex. You will assess evolving patient conditions, identify actual and potential health concerns, and develop appropriate care plans. Interventions may be delivered directly or coordinated through collaboration with other members of the nursing team.

Qualifications
• ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
• At least one year of hospital-based, NICU RN experience required.
• Active DC RN License and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required (AHA or American Red Cross).
This position has a hiring range of : USD $41.77 - USD $63.66 /Hr.
