About the position Inova Fairfax Hospital is looking for an experienced RN to join the PCICU team within Inova's L.J. Murphy Children’s Hospital. This position is Night Shift 7:00pm-7:00am. Sign-on bonus and relocation bonus. At Inova, the Pediatric Cardiac ICU serves the needs of critically ill infants, children, and adolescents who require specialized heart care. This specialized unit is staffed by highly skilled nurses and a team of intensivists from multiple subspecialties, including anesthesiology, pediatric cardiology, pediatric heart surgery, neonatology (newborn care), cardiac critical care, and pulmonology (lung care). The unit is expanding to include transplant and device management. Our nationally recognized, 226-bed Inova Children’s Hospital houses comprehensive medical services and specialists who focus on the unique treatment of younger patients. Inova Children's Hospital is an award-winning, full-service children’s hospital devoted to the healthcare of infants, children and adolescents in the Northern Virginia area. The Registered Nurse provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patients, families, nurses and healthcare delivery teams. Consistently provides safe and therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way while incorporating differences into the provision of care and conducting all patient care in a patient/family centered manner. Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, to include patient and family education. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others while having respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines. Determines processes for delivery of care from direct patient/family communication, technology and other healthcare team member collaboration. Responsibilities • Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships • Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice • Conducts all patient care in a patient and family centered manner, integrating knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care • Advocates for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective and provides counsel while acting as a resource to resolve issues • Accesses resources from all disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning • Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation • Evaluates the process to achieve outcomes, anticipates patient variances and makes revisions to plans of care • Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition while promoting the development of clinical decision making of all team members • Communicates effectively, works cooperatively with others, and has respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines • Assists staff to assess patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education • Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor and delegates patient care activities and coordinates unit activities as needed • Utilizes standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery and ensures that the process for delivery of care is synthesized from direct patient/family communication, technology and other healthcare team member collaboration • Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record • Evaluates clinical and quality outcomes and contributes to performance improvement initiatives • May perform additional duties as assigned Requirements • Certification: Basic Life Support; for Critical Care units, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support within 6 months of hire; for Pediatric units, Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire. Certifications must be from American Heart Association. • Licensure: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license • Experience: 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship • Education - Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree. If RN has an Associate's Degree, must complete BSN within 5 years of start date. Nice-to-haves • 1 - 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU, PICU or CVICU experience preferred.
