Shifts Available: NOC (11pm–7am) | PM (3pm–11pm) Location: Artesia Palms Care Center – Artesia, CA Artesia Palms Care Center is a secured 3296-bed skilled nursing facility providing care for residents with Alzheimer’s, dementia, behavioral challenges, and stabilized mental illness. We offer rehabilitation, medical, and nursing home services and are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. General Purpose The RN supervises day-to-day nursing activities during assigned shifts, ensuring quality resident care in compliance with federal, state, and local standards. The RN works under the direction of the Director of Nursing (DON) or Assistant DON (ADON) and serves as a key leader and resource for staff, residents, and families. Essential Duties Administrative • Direct daily nursing functions in accordance with regulations and facility policies. • Maintain and update procedures, manuals, and reference materials. • Report concerns, incidents, or policy needs to the DON/ADON. • Oversee admissions, transfers, and discharges. • Complete required forms, documentation, and reports. • Protect confidentiality of resident information and facility systems. Committee Participation • Attend and contribute to Infection Control, Quality Assurance, Care Plan, and other assigned committees. • Prepare reports and implement committee recommendations. Personnel Management • Ensure adequate licensed nurse and CNA staffing each shift. • Assign duties, delegate responsibilities, and monitor performance. • Supervise trainees under direct RN/LPN oversight. • Conduct rounds to ensure nursing standards are met. • Address absenteeism, grievances, and disciplinary issues as needed. • Promote a positive, supportive, team-focused work environment. • Participate in evaluations, training, and performance improvement. Nursing Care • Greet and orient new residents; ensure rooms are ready. • Make rounds with physicians; encourage timely documentation. • Communicate with families, residents, and providers regarding care plans and condition changes. • Provide direct care as needed, including IVs, vital signs, specimens, and treatments. • Monitor and document resident conditions and care provided. • Oversee medication passes, treatments, and restraint use per policy. • Ensure safe, clean, and supportive resident environments. • Support discharge planning and coordinate transport. • Notify families of significant status changes, including death. Staff Development • Participate in in-service training and annual education programs (OSHA, HIPAA, Infection Control, etc.). • Support orientation and clinical supervision of nurse aides. • Maintain current licensure and pursue continuing education. Safety & Sanitation • Enforce infection control, hand hygiene, and PPE standards. • Monitor compliance with fire, disaster, and safety procedures. • Ensure work areas, resident rooms, and treatment areas are clean and safe. • Oversee proper use of equipment and hazardous materials. Equipment & Supplies • Recommend and monitor supply and equipment needs. • Maintain safe and efficient use of nursing equipment. • Assist with preventive maintenance planning. Care Planning & Assessments • Participate in resident assessments, MDS, and care plan development. • Review and update plans of care to ensure appropriate goals and interventions. • Ensure staff follow care plans and document accordingly. Budget & Planning • Provide input on department needs and resource use. • Identify potential fraud, billing, or compliance concerns. Supervisory Responsibility RNs carry administrative authority and accountability to supervise nursing staff, ensure compliance with care standards, and maintain resident safety and quality outcomes. Qualifications Education & Experience • Nursing degree from an accredited program. • Two years’ nursing experience, preferably in long-term care. • Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing preferred. Licensure • Current RN license in the state of California. • Current CPR certification. • PCC knowledge preferred. • Must maintain licensure and continuing education in good standing. Skills & Abilities • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. • Ability to manage staff, residents, families, and regulatory contacts tactfully. • Knowledge of nursing practices, laws, and regulations governing long-term care. • Patience, flexibility, and ability to manage challenging situations. Physical Demands • Ability to move intermittently throughout the day. • Lift, push, or carry at least 25 lbs. up to 50 feet. • Tolerate stress, emergencies, and emotional situations. • Meet facility health and physical requirements. Work Environment • Work in resident rooms, nursing stations, and common areas with frequent interruptions. • Exposure to residents, families, staff, and regulatory personnel. • Possible exposure to infections, hazardous materials, and emotional stress. • Work beyond scheduled hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
