POSITION SUMMARY: The Preoperative & PACU Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients before and after surgical procedures. This includes preoperative assessments, patient education, monitoring during recovery, and ensuring patients meet discharge criteria. The nurse collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective care throughout the perioperative process. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Preoperative Duties: • Assess and prepare patients for surgery, including reviewing medical history, medications, and allergies. • Initiate IVs, administer preoperative medications, and obtain informed consents. • Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, expectations, and post-op care. • Ensure all pre-op documentation is complete and accurate. • Communicate any abnormal findings to the surgical or anesthesia team. PACU Duties: • Monitor patients recovering from anesthesia, including vital signs, airway, pain, and consciousness. • Administer medications and perform interventions as needed. • Provide emotional support and education to patients and families during recovery. • Document all care provided and patient responses in the medical record. • Ensure patients meet discharge criteria and provide post-op instructions. REQUIREMENTS: • Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. • Current RN license in good standing. • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required. • Minimum of 2 years of experience in critical care, PACU, or perioperative nursing preferred. • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills. • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. • Proficiency in EHR systems and clinical documentation. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. • Have close visual acuity to perform an activity including viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, interpretation, etc. • Must possess the physical, mental, and cognitive skills needed to complete essential tasks, including abilities such as learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for comprehension, problem-solving, and timely decision-making. • Must be able to be stationary for prolonged periods of time COGNITIVE REQUIREMENT: • Executes tasks independently. • Learns and memorizes tasks. • Maintains concentration/focus on tasks. • Performs task in a demanding environment requiring multi-task and prioritize work. • Must be comfortable working and interacting with large groups of people daily.
