Description Registered NurseCulpeper, VA Registered Nurse - PRNCulpeper, VA Nursing DescriptionUVA Outpatient Imaging Culpeper is excited to be hiring a PRN Registered Nurse to join our energetic, patient-focused team!As our center continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced RN to support our outpatient imaging centers in downtown Culpeper, Virginia. JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Administrator, the Registered Nurse (RN) is a highly skilled clinician who utilizes an interdisciplinary approach to deliver high-quality patient care within the imaging center.The RN prepares patients for imaging procedures, supports contrast administration and reaction management, ensures care is delivered in a safe and compliant environment, and actively contributes to workflow efficiency, quality improvement, and patient experience initiatives. The RN also serves as a key clinical resource for staff, providers, and patients across imaging and breast care services. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Clinical Care & Patient SupportPrepares patients for imaging procedures, including rooming, screening, IV and port access, renal function assessment, allergy history review, and patient education.Performs venipuncture and maintains intravenous access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner. Identifies, prepares, measures, and administers medications (including oral and IV contrast) as prescribed and in accordance with state and federal regulations. Accesses power ports per procedure and monitors patients’ physiological condition, documenting findings as required. Assists radiologists and clinical teams in the assessment, monitoring, and treatment of contrast reactions, including medication administration. Provides compassionate, trauma-informed care and emotional support before, during, and after procedures. Explains procedures clearly, answers patient questions, and reinforces post-procedure instructions.Demonstrates consistent use of AIDET and HEAL principles in all patient and customer interactions. Collaboration, Leadership & EducationCollaborates with imaging center staff to facilitate timely, coordinated patient care.Mentors staff, orients new employees, and serves as a preceptor for students or residents as assigned. Assumes a leadership role in the absence of a supervisor or manager and assists with administrative or project duties as needed. Exercises sound clinical judgment and appropriately escalate issues or concerns. Performs monthly emergency response scenarios with the clinical team in conjunction with leadership. Functions as a liaison with primary care departments and other clinical services. Attends, participates in, and/or conducts staff meetings, in-services, and center-wide meetings as scheduled. Safety, Quality & OperationsEnsures services are performed in a safe environment in compliance with established guidelines and regulatory requirements.Participates in safety initiatives, policy updates, performance improvement, and quality assurance activities related to contrast administration and imaging services.Performs quality assurance checks on equipment. Assists in maintaining supply inventory and ensures readiness and cleanliness of exam rooms, treatment areas, equipment, and supplies. Supports workflow efficiency by assisting other imaging modalities or areas when workload allows. Takes initiative to optimize contrast processes to reduce delays and improve patient flowServes, manages, and supports internal and external customers. Breast Navigation & Care CoordinationContacts all BI-RADS 4 and 5 biopsy patients to explain procedures, review medical history and medications, and obtain necessary clearance for medication holds (e.g., anticoagulants). Provides comprehensive pre- and post-procedure education for breast biopsies, diagnostic imaging, and breast MRI. Documents all patient communication, histories, education, and workflows in Epic. Tracks and maintains accurate biopsy dates, reschedules, and updates the Biopsy Database accordingly. Enters and maintains all patient, biopsy, pathology, and radiologist recommendation data in the Biopsy Database. Completes all Epic biopsy workflow tasks, including order and result linking.Follows up with pathology laboratories for delayed or pending results and ensures radiologists receive results immediately upon release. Communicates results to patients and assists with scheduling surgical or specialty consultations as recommended.Facilitates communication among radiologists, surgeons, referring providers, and patients regarding abnormal findings and next steps. Participates in tumor boards, case conferences, and multidisciplinary quality review meetings as needed. Supports seamless handoffs between radiology and surgical/oncology services. Maintains navigation logs, biopsy turnaround data, and performance metrics. Identifies workflow barriers or delays and leads or supports improvement efforts.Supports Breast Center of Excellence accreditation readiness, documentation, and program development.Assists leadership with protocol updates, scheduling optimization, operational planning, and patient education material development. Offers continued emotional support and guidance to patients throughout the diagnostic and care coordination process. Requirements RequirementsEXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 year as an RN in a clinical setting, ER nursing experience preferred. EDUCATION:Must be a graduate of an accredited RN program.LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must meet the state licensure requirement for the state in which they practice. CPR, ACLS certification required.SKILLS/ABILITIES:Ability to work independently and multitask.Ability to provide documentation accurately and concisely.Ability to manage medical emergencies and contrast reactions under the direction of a licensed independent practitioner.Knowledge of computer applications, including information and billing systems, keyboard input, digital archiving, and retrieving of data.Our outpatient imaging center offers competitive salary and benefits.
