POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Registered Nurse in the Special Care Unit, you'll report to the Clinical Nurse Manager. Using the nursing process, you will provide top-notch direct and indirect patient-centered care. Collaborate with a dedicated interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care effectively, communicate changes in clinical conditions, and respond promptly to treatment outcomes. Your role will focus on delivering high-quality, age-appropriate care throughout the lifespan while promoting the nursing profession through supportive interactions with colleagues.

Qualifications
• Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Current licensure in the state of Connecticut.
• Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support upon hire, or to be completed during the introductory orientation period, with a commitment to maintaining clinical competency.

COMPETENCIES:
• Effective communication skills in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Basic computer skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering their physical, psychosocial, educational, and cultural needs.
• Provide age-appropriate care by understanding patient development principles, including adult and geriatric care.
• Assess and manage pain effectively, educating patients and families on pain management options.
• Develop and revise individualized care plans based on assessments and response to treatment, involving patients and families in goal-setting.
• Adhere to medication administration protocols to reduce errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications based on age and clinical condition.
• Ensure patient safety and positive outcomes by providing comprehensive patient care.
• Document nursing processes and patient responses in a timely manner using the appropriate tools.
• Exhibit flexibility and organization while performing under stress, utilizing critical thinking for priority setting.
• Create teaching plans based on patient learning needs, involving family members as appropriate.
• Engage in autonomous practice aligning with evidence-based standards, continuously pursuing personal and professional development.
• Provide thorough reports of patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
• Demonstrate proficiency in cardiac monitoring, identifying dysrhythmias, and implementing ACLS protocols when necessary.
