Registered Nurse - Special Care Unit in Bolton, CT

Position Summary: The Registered Nurse in the Special Care Unit plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient-centered care. Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager, the RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate comprehensive care while monitoring patient conditions and responding swiftly to changes.

Education/Certification: Applicants must be graduates of an accredited nursing school and hold current licensure in Connecticut. Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire, or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, along with maintaining clinical competency throughout employment.

Competencies: Successful candidates will have effective verbal and written communication skills in English, as well as basic computer skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of this role may evolve, and include but are not limited to:
• Conducting thorough assessments of medical and surgical patients' conditions, incorporating psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural considerations.
• Understanding and applying developmental principles to provide age-appropriate care for adult and geriatric populations.
• Assessing and managing pain effectively while documenting interventions and patient responses.
• Creating and updating individualized care plans based on assessments, ensuring daily evaluation of effectiveness and involving patients and families in goal-setting.
• Following the five medication rights to minimize the risk of medication errors and demonstrating knowledge of drug administration tailored to the patient's age and condition.
• Ensuring patient safety through attentive care practices that promote positive outcomes.
• Documenting the nursing process and patient responses promptly with the appropriate tools.
• Exhibiting flexibility and organizational skills, managing stress effectively while utilizing critical thinking in setting priorities and delegating tasks.
• Developing and evaluating a teaching plan tailored to the identified learning needs of patients and families.
• Exemplifying autonomous practice aligned with evidence-based standards and seeking opportunities for professional growth; acting as a mentor and role model.
• Providing accurate reports on patient conditions to ensure safe transitions of care.
• Demonstrating knowledge in cardiac monitoring, identifying dysrhythmias, and applying ACLS protocols as necessary.
