Job Description
Purpose:
To deliver exceptional nursing care to patients by adhering to physician directives, compliance with state and federal regulations, and following facility policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions and Requirements:
• Conducts walking rounds at the start and end of each shift while exchanging reports.
• Manages narcotic counts at the beginning and end of shifts, ensuring accuracy through appropriate initialing on count sheets.
• Performs fingersticks as ordered by the physician throughout the shift.
• Administers all medications (oral, s.q., I.M., or I.V.) as prescribed, within a 60-minute window before or after the scheduled time. Additionally, administers tube feedings and initiates I.V.s as per physician orders.
• Monitors critical or unstable patients closely, documenting findings and notifying the supervisor and/or physician as required.
• Observes patients for symptoms or reactions, reporting any adverse changes to the supervisor and/or physician. Ensures documentation is recorded in nursing notes and necessary notifications are made to the patient’s family.
• Provides leadership and supervision to nursing assistants and orderlies, guiding their daily tasks.
• Oversees care and treatments conducted by nursing assistants and orderlies, such as vital signs, mobility assistance, and rehabilitative programs, ensuring accurate documentation of their care.
• Completes incident reports and contacts the physician when necessary.
• Fulfills nursing documentation requirements in alignment with facility procedures.
• Facilitates the admission process for new patients, ensuring completion of all necessary records including Nurses Admission Record, Nurses Notes, dietary requisitions, and MAR checks.
• Handles patient transfers and discharges as specified by the physician.
• Assists physicians during rounds as needed.
• Provides support and care for patients during medical examinations and treatments.
• Informs the physician of any medication administration errors promptly.
• Records PRN medications and their effectiveness appropriately on the PRN documentation sheet.
• Conducts scheduled treatments throughout the shift and documents accordingly.
• Monitors specific skin conditions and reports findings at least weekly or more frequently if necessary.
