We strive for a 4 : 1 ratio but can have a 5 : 1 ratio, depending on our staffing situation. We have a mixture of pulmonary (pneumonia, COPD, BiPAP / cpap, etc.), cardiac (a-fib, heart failure, etc.), neuro (stroke), GI (bleed), and surgery patients who are stable with a higher risk of becoming unstable. Our unit is equipped to house 20 stepdown patients at one time, however, all patients do not have to be step-down in order to be on our unit. We accept patients who do not require invasive monitoring. There may be a combination of adult med-surg, telemetry, and step-down patients at any given time, based upon bed availability house wide. Examples of critical drips we can administer to our step-down patients : Amiodarone, Esmolol, Insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, and Nitroglycerin. • Patients are stable....but with a higher possibility of becoming unstable.
• When fully staffed : 6 nurses total : five nurses taking patients and one dedicated charge each shift, 2 patient care assistants each shift, 2 monitor techs each shift, 1 unit clerk each shift Special Equipment : Nihon Kohden monitoring system BiPAP / CPap / Optiflow / Home Vent (via trach) #Tier2 Travel Compliance Local candidates are candidates who live within 50 miles of facility.
