
REGISTERED NURSE SUPERVISOR - DAY SHIFT in Pontiac, MI
Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Nurse Supervisor plans, collaborates with the NurseManagers to direct and oversee nursing staff and patient care activities on the units. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, promoting a safe and therapeutic environment, and providing leadership to staff. The Nurse supervisor coordinates activities of the units with physicians, residents and other interdisciplinary departments. The Nurse Supervisor provides direction, structure, and leadership to all nursing staff in the hospital to ensure therapeutic practices support patient care needs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. In consultation with the Chief Nurse or Nurse Manager. The Nurse Supervisor supports the therapeutic practices and enhances patient outcome within the hospital
2. :Plans for and supervises the delivery of care to all patients admitted to the unit.
A. Maintains standards of patient care by supervising the daily and shift operations of the nursing staff on the units to ensure compliance with the hospital policies and standards of care.
B. Consults, directs, and assists nurses with the assessment of patients and care plan updates for each patient.
C. May reassign staff based on patient needs and staff preparation and availability.
D. Conducts frequent rounds on the patient care units to monitor patient conditions and ensure effective implementation of treatment plans.
E. Ensures completion of nursing documentation for restraint, seclusion, restrictive interventions, care plans, and prn medications has been completed.
F. Maintains appropriate documentation of events which have occurred during the shift.
G. Observes and evaluates nursing care by making frequent patient rounds, conferences with physicians, psychiatrists, residents and therapists, and regular review of nursing documentation.
H. Responds to crisis situations effectively to ensure staff and patient safety,
I. Provides support and direction to staff in managing challenging patient behaviors in compliance with established procedures.
J. Responsible for maintenance of discipline in accordance with policy and contractual agreements.
K. Serves as a role model for staff
L. Schedules staff to quality nursing care on a 24-hour basis.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Cont’d:
M. Evaluates individual work performances through direct observation of care provided, discussion with patients and review of documentation.
N. Assures that assigned personnel are prepared to function safely and effectively.
O. Works with other hospital departments to resolve problems and coordinate services to the unit.
P. Adjusts staffing based on changes in patient census, patient acuity, and unit of service (NHPPD) goals.
Q. Works in conjunction with the staffing coordinator to secure staff for unit operations.
R. Conducts regular unit meetings and participates in daily shift huddles to discuss patient care needs and unit operations as necessary.
S. Assists in the development and implementation of standards of patient care, policies and procedures for Nursing.

A. Assumes responsibility for special projects as assigned.
B. Performs other related duties as assigned and as judgment and necessity dictate.
SUPERVISION:
Reports to the Chief Nursing Officer. Supervises a staff comprised Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Mental Health Technicians, Undergraduate Nurse Externs, and other support personnel assigned to the area.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Michigan. BSN required. MSN preferred.
2. Three (3) to five (5) years current staff nurse experience with at least one (1) year in the area of specialty required. One (1) year current leadership experience as Nursing Supervisor or Charge Nurse.
3. Demonstrated interpersonal communication abilities required interacting with the public and all levels of the hospital staff. Expected to float or be pulled to any other area as needed.
4. Performs duties as assigned and as judgment and necessity dictate.
5. Registered Nurse License in the State of Michigan.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $53.00 - $56.00 per hour
