The Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor position at the New Mexico State Veterans Home exists to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, and compassionate nursing care to residents¿many of whom are aging veterans with complex medical and emotional needs. This role is essential in providing leadership, oversight, and clinical expertise to the nursing team, while also serving as a key liaison between staff, residents, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare providers. The RN Supervisor is responsible for maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, ensuring that standards of care are met, and that documentation is accurate and timely. Additionally, this position plays a critical role in training and mentoring nursing staff, managing day-to-day clinical operations, and responding to medical or administrative emergencies. Ultimately, the RN Supervisor helps uphold the mission of the Veterans Home by promoting dignity, respect, and quality of life for New Mexico¿s veteran population. How does it get done? Provide direct supervision and clinical oversight to licensed nurses, nursing assistants, and support staff, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of nursing care. Coordinate nursing activities and implement nursing standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements. Ensure residents receive high-quality, person-centered care aligned with medical orders, individualized care plans, and state and federal regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and CMS guidelines. Monitor and maintain compliance with all applicable laws, accreditation standards, and facility policies. Participate actively in interdisciplinary care planning meetings, resident assessments, and quality improvement initiatives to support comprehensive care strategies. Serve as a resource and liaison between nursing staff, administration, residents, families, and other healthcare providers. Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies and urgent resident needs, making sound clinical decisions and delegating appropriately. Conduct routine audits of clinical documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to facility and regulatory standards. Lead and support staff development efforts by providing training, mentorship, performance evaluations, and assisting with on boarding and continuing education. Assist with scheduling, staffing, budget, and resource management in collaboration with nursing administration. Promote a respectful, safe, and supportive work environment that upholds the values of dignity, respect, and quality of life for the veteran residents. Participate in infection control programs and other initiatives aimed at improving resident safety and health outcomes. Who are the customers? This job will also support the widows of the service men and women to include parents that have lost children in combat (Gold Star Parents) Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate for the Registered Nurse Supervisor position is a highly skilled and licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with proven leadership experience in long-term care or related healthcare settings. The candidate must possess an active, unrestricted RN license issued by the New Mexico Board of Nursing or by a compact state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). A minimum of three (3) years of professional nursing experience, including at least one (1) year in a supervisory or charge nurse capacity, is typically required. Experience working with geriatric and veteran populations is highly desirable. This position requires advanced knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and regulations, as well as a strong understanding of federal and state compliance standards, including OSHA, HIPAA, and CMS. The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills, and has the ability to manage nursing operations, supervise staff, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and familiarity with veteran-specific care needs are essential. Minimum Qualification Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico and five (5) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license.
