
Registered Nurse - Surgical ICU in Bristol, CT

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Surgical ICU, you will play a vital role in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care according to unit policies and procedures. You'll supervise non-RN staff and may be required to work on other units as needed. Your leadership will help maintain high service levels while supporting patient needs.
Responsibilities
• Continuously assess the physical and psychosocial condition of patients throughout their care journey.
• Develop a personalized plan of care that addresses individual patient issues, collaborating with the patient, family, and healthcare team.
• Implement and coordinate the plan of care alongside the healthcare team.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the plan, patient responses to care, and readiness for discharge, making adjustments as necessary.
• Provide education tailored to the individual learning needs of patients and their families, documenting outcomes.
• Act as a preceptor for new staff members.
• Serve in a charge nurse capacity when needed.
• Meet performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and personal development.
• Perform additional duties as directed to ensure efficient unit operations.
• Demonstrate expertise in caring for neuro patients, including assessments and airway management.
• Assist with care during special neuro procedures.
• Conduct suctioning practices according to protocols.
• Show proficiency in using equipment and providing care for patients in a Halo brace.
• Understand nursing responsibilities for patients on ventilators.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and internet literature searches for patient care.
Experience: Not applicable.
Licensure: Valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License.
Special Skills: BLS certification required.
Med/Surg RN experience required.
