
Registered Nurse - Surgical Intensive Care Unit in Coleytown, CT

This position operates under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and supervising individualized patient care according to unit policies and procedures. You will also oversee non-RN personnel and, when in a charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities. Flexibility to work across various nursing units as needed is essential.
Responsibilities
• Continuously assess the physical and psychosocial condition of patients throughout their care journey.
• Design and document a personalized care plan that addresses specific patient problems, collaborating with patients, families, and the healthcare team for successful outcomes.
• Implement and coordinate care plans in partnership with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans, the patient’s response, and discharge readiness, revising plans and making referrals as necessary.
• Tailor educational content based on individual learning needs and readiness of patients and families, documenting educational outcomes.
• Act as a mentor and preceptor for new staff members.
• Take on charge nurse responsibilities when needed.
• Meet performance standards related to customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development.
• Perform additional duties as directed to ensure smooth unit operations.
• Demonstrate competency in caring for neuro patients, including conducting neuro assessments and managing their airways.
• Assist with special neuro procedures and manage care for patients with tracheostomies.
• Utilize equipment and techniques for patients in a halo brace and those on ventilators effectively.
Qualifications
Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school; a BSN is preferred. Proficiency in electronic patient records and ability to conduct online literature searches for patient care improvement is required.
Experience: No prior specific experience is necessary, but Med/Surg RN experience is required.
Licensure: A valid Registered Nurse license in the state of Connecticut is required.
Special Skills: Current BLS certification is mandatory.
