Backus Hospital is actively seeking Registered Nurses for our Med Surg units. We welcome experienced nurses, student nurses, and recent graduates to apply.

We house the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties and have exclusive LIFE STAR helicopter services. A4 is a dedicated 31-bed pre and post-op surgical unit, committed to providing exceptional care. Our collaborative team includes new graduate and experienced nurses, nursing leaders, and healthcare professionals who thrive in a dynamic, supportive atmosphere. We care for patients recovering from a range of surgical procedures, encompassing orthopedic, bariatric, GI, Women's Health, and medical patients. Recognized as an Advanced Total Joint and Advanced Spine center of excellence, we combine expertise with innovative technology to cultivate a patient-centric care environment that promotes healing.
JOB SUMMARY
Celebrated for demonstrating clinical competence, our nursing team utilizes the nursing process to forge synergistic nurse-patient relationships. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, creating comprehensive care plans, and implementing and evaluating quality care.
• Graduate of a nursing school; BSN preferred
• One year of RN experience or successful completion of the Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program
• Current unrestricted RN license in good standing in the State of Connecticut
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Possesses fundamental knowledge of nursing principles and practices. Read and comprehend both oral and written instructions effectively. Excellent communication skills essential for interaction with departments, colleagues, physicians, managers, and patients. Ability to manage multiple priorities, remain flexible, and collaborate as a team. Capable of thriving in a high-stress environment with a strong commitment to customer service. Basic computer proficiency to enter and retrieve data is necessary.
Exhibits a high level of analytical ability to interpret information from various sources. Adept in responding to changes, circumstances, problems, and emergency situations. Maintains confidentiality at all times.
