Description Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Trainer - Illinois Department: Quality and Nursing Services Reports To: Nurse Manager with a dotted line to the National Director of Shared Living Date: September, 2025 Job Summary: The Registered Nurse Trainer monitors and promotes the health and safety of the people supported. This position ensures company compliance with all relevant medical rules, regulations, and guidelines. This position operates in a professional office environment, the residential programs, and in the community, and will use standard office equipment. While performing this position, employees may be at risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens, and violent and offensive behavior. Duties/Responsibilities: • Provides overall direction regarding medical care to the Operations department by mentoring, coaching, and auditing records of people supported. • Provides education and authorization to unlicensed staff to perform certain tasks; medication administration, basic wound care, seizure care, etc in accordance to regulations. • Conducts various assessments; HRST, SAMA, etc in a timely and throughout manner according to regulations. • Supports local management to develop direct care staff knowledge of medical procedures, medication administration, and healthcare procedures. • Develops, implements, and trains on various health protocols. • Support operations in admissions and discharges and ensures that all protocols and medical orders are transferred. • Supports operations as needed with the ordering and disbursement of all prescribed and over the counter medications, appropriate medical supplies, and equipment for people supported. • Disposes of unused or discontinued prescription meds as needed and as required by state law and regulation. • Follows up on all medication errors and provides reports consistent with internal policies and procedures and local, state, or federal regulations. • Maintains high level of awareness regarding the health and medical needs of people supported and provides medical information to necessary parties, in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. • Works closely with health and medical professionals within the community to ensure adequate care for the people supported. • Understands and develops practices that align with state regulations, quality standards, and other health and safety regulations. • Attends meetings and training as needed. • Represents the company in a professional manner in the community. • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding company information, including any information regarding people supported. Qualifications and Experience: • Valid State driver's license • 2 years of previous RN experience • Must be able to pass company drug screen process (if applicable), Medicaid and Medicare fraud checks, a criminal background check, and an employment history verification • Intermediate/Advanced understanding of technology and computer functions. Some people supported may demonstrate behavioral challenges. • Displays high integrity and exercises due diligence • Acts decisively • Focuses on customer needs • Builds strong alliances • Inspires high performance • Maintains professional credibility • Demonstrates astuteness Education: • Valid nursing license issued from the State Board of Nursing • Licensed Registered Nurse • Ability to obtain the DHS RN Trainer certification within 3 months of start date • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) required • Previous knowledge of providing nursing care to people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and/or Mental Health is preferred • CPR/First Aid certification current and valid Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: • Ability to lift at least fifty (50) pounds on a routine basis to assist with individuals supported. • Ability to bend, twist, lift, reach and assist individuals supported with their movements including their ability to stand up. • Variable weekly hours to support operational needs including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays including possible on-call support. • Required to work in Shared Living settings as needed. • Successful applicant(s) will travel to the various programs as assigned under the direction of Vista Care leadership which may include across various states.
