The Registered Nurse (RN) works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator, providing comprehensive nursing assessments, planning, implementation, evaluation, and supervision of individual patient care according to departmental policies and procedures. This role includes overseeing non-RN personnel and may require working across various nursing units as needed. Additionally, the RN will perform other duties as assigned to ensure exceptional service delivery.
Responsibilities
• Conduct ongoing assessments of patients' physical and psychosocial conditions throughout their care continuum.
• Develop, communicate, and document individualized care plans that incorporate patient problems and interventions to achieve desired outcomes, actively involving patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Implement and coordinate care plans collaboratively with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of care plans, patients' responses to care, and readiness for discharge; revise plans as necessary and make referrals when indicated.
• Assess and identify educational needs of patients and families, provide relevant educational opportunities, and document the outcomes of these efforts.
• Act as a preceptor to new staff members.
• Assume the role of Charge Nurse as needed.
• Meet and exceed performance expectations related to customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and personal development as outlined in performance reviews.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure efficient departmental operations.
• Demonstrate proficiency in caring for neuro patients.
• Exhibit skills and knowledge in neuro assessment techniques.
• Show understanding and competence in airway management specific to neuro patients.
• Demonstrate skills in caring for patients with tracheostomies and assisting physicians during special neuro procedures.
• Understand and implement the 'Tia' teaching program for patients.
• Perform pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy suctioning in adherence to established protocols.
• Effectively manage patient care in a Halo brace.
• Display competence in nursing responsibilities and interventions for patients on ventilators.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required; a BSN is preferred. Proficiency in computer software, including electronic patient records, is essential. Ability to conduct internet searches for relevant literature on patient care is also necessary.
EXPERIENCE
No prior experience required.
LICENSURE
Must possess a valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License.
SPECIAL SKILLS
BLS certification is required.
