Description The Registered Nurse (RN) may provide direct primary nursing care to patients, supervise and direct licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants in a professional manner. The RN may also work in the role of Nursing Supervisor. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Administrative: • Serves as House Supervisor in the absence of DON, ADON, and/or RN Supervisor. • Supports and participates in the center’s Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Program. • Participates on committees as needed or assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Clinical • Ability to supervise and direct licensed and non-licensed nursing employees. • Ability to promote and maintain an effective working relationship with physicians/physician extenders, lab, and pharmacy partners to ensure the proper and safe care of patients. • Ability to promote and maintain an effective working relationship with nursing employees, other departments, patients, families, visitors, and other health care centers. • Directs and supervises the delivery of patient care. • Makes rounds to observe and assess patients daily. Reports any significant change in a patient’s condition to other team members, the physician/physician extender, the patient and legal representative. Completes required documentation. • Monitors to ensure that nursing care documentation is appropriate, concise, and timely. • Keeps nursing administration and management informed regarding evaluations of patient care. • Participate in clinical rounds with medical providers when indicated to provide pertinent information regarding the patient’s care/condition and will follow through with the physician/physician extender orders. • Reviews physician/physician extender orders, diagnostic and pharmacy reports. Follows up with pharmacy regarding a change in medication. • Ability to address complaints and follow-up in a timely manner. Keeps nursing administration/management informed of complaint/follow-up outcomes. • Completes incident/accident reports and performs follow-up to address concerns. Incident/accidents will be reported to administrative nursing personnel. • Performs physical assessment for patients, recognizes normal and abnormal physiological findings and compared against the patient’s baseline. Reports findings as indicated. • Performs wound care in accordance with physician/physician-extender orders. Documents treatments completed. • Assists in the development of the patient’s plan of care and assists updating the plan of care as indicated. • Performs nursing tasks or skills in accordance with standards of practice. • Participates in the admission, discharge and transfer of patients. • Provides direct care to patients when needed including the administration of medication and the provision of wound care. • Provides report for new patient admissions, as indicated, while ensuring that rooms are ready and prepared to receive a new patient admission prior to the patient arriving, as indicated. • Performs other duties, as assigned. Qualifications • Current RN license in good standing with the Virginia Department of Health Professions. • Two years of medical-surgical experience as a RN, preferred. • Demonstrates excellent clinical, customer service and leadership skills. • Current CPR Healthcare Provider certification. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Prolonged periods standing, walking, working and frequently pulling, pushing, and bending • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time • Must be able to move 150 pounds with assistance
