Job Description
The ICU Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the delivery of safe patient care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role provides direct patient care within scope and may float to other units as needed, including the ER (to care for ICU holds), Telemetry, and Med-Surg. The nurse will guide patient and family teaching, and oversee other nursing personnel while maintaining standards of care in the ICU. They are directly responsible for the care given to assigned patients and must communicate effectively with the physician regarding any changes in the patient’s clinical condition, including hemodynamic monitoring, diagnostic study results, and symptomatology. The RN should be able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition and/or treatment response, while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
Responsibilities
• Deliver safe patient care using the nursing process.
• Provide direct patient care within scope of practice.
• Float to other units as required.
• Direct and guide patient/family teaching and the activities of other nursing personnel.
• Communicate changes in patient condition to the physician.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
• Current and valid state RN license
• Current BLS certification upon hire and maintain current.
• Current ACLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred, RN-C within 2 years of hire preferred.
• PALS certification within 30 days of hire for units that admit pediatric patients.
• NIHSS Certificate required.
