A Registered Nurse with Emergency Department expertise is sought to provide critical care services in a Level 1 Trauma center environment. This role supports a high-volume, 58-bed emergency department known for treating over 60,000 urgent and emergent cases annually, including pediatric care at a dedicated children’s emergency unit. The department coordinates closely with ambulance and Med Flight services, delivering immediate interventions for trauma, cardiac, stroke, burns, and other critical emergencies. The position requires flexibility with floating across units as organizational needs dictate. Location This opportunity is based in a leading Magnet-designated academic hospital located in Madison, Wisconsin. The hospital ranks as the state’s top medical center and is nationally recognized for providing advanced care and medical education. Convenient transportation options include bus service, park & ride facilities, and onsite parking with permit arrangements. Qualifications and Experience • Active Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent home state • Minimum two years of Emergency Department nursing experience treating both adult and pediatric patients within the past three years • Experience working in an academic Level 1 trauma center or comparably sized hospital • Current American Heart Association certifications: BLS, PALS, ACLS • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification required • Epic electronic health record experience within the last 12 months preferred • Basic arrhythmia knowledge with the ability to pass a telemetry test prior to assignment • Previous travel nursing experience required • Permanent residence must be within 50 miles of the primary work site Responsibilities • Deliver comprehensive emergency nursing care, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for diverse patient populations • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and emergency services to facilitate timely, efficient patient management • Participate in weekend and holiday rotations with shifts primarily during night hours (1900 - 0730), working 12-hour shifts Schedule • Night shifts, generally 3 x 12-hour shifts per week (1900 to 0730) • Weekend and holiday rotations as needed Additional Details Flexibility with location and floating between units will be required to meet staffing demands throughout the assignment. Onsite parking permits are required but alternative transportation options are well supported.
