JOB SUMMARY:
In accordance with the philosophy and goals of OSS Orthopedic Hospital and within the scope of the Pennsylvania Nurse Practice Act, the Registered Nurse (RN) will provide care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. The RN is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization.
SCHEDULE:
Full Time, 36 hours per week, 12 hour shifts, 6:45 pm - 6:45am (18:45 - 06:45).
Every 4th weekend, 1 major and 1 minor holiday per year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care for an assigned group of patients.
• Verifies and implements physician/other licensed independent practitioners’ orders.
• Administers medications according to OSS standards, policies, procedures and/or guidelines.
• Initiates appropriate emergency procedures and administers life-support drugs/treatment under the direction of the physician.
• Assumes responsibility and accountability for care provided and documented by other licensed and unlicensed caregivers as appropriate.
• Manage patient assignments effectively.
• Coordinates/facilitates patient/family education, as well as participating in Joint/Spine class teaching.
• Documents accurately and completely pertinent assessments, interventions and outcomes for patients in accordance with the documentation standards, policies, procedures and/or guidelines.
• Accurately charges for all billable services in conjunction with corresponding documentation.
• Maintains skills as determined through yearly competency testing.
• Participate in ongoing educational activities through in-services, education days, self-study or established educational programs.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information at all times.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives.
• Practices principles of safety and infection control as defined by policy.
• Utilizes interpersonal skills to facilitate communication and teamwork between departments, health care workers, patients and families.
• May assist in collecting and completing Unit-specific Performance Indicators (PI) work.
• At Manager’s discretion, may function as Charge Nurse once being oriented to role.
• Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
• Graduate of School of Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing or health related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Graduate Registered Nurse Permit in the State of Pennsylvania required.
• CPR certification required. Must possess ACLS certification or have the ability to achieve within one year.
• Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge in the principles of growth and development over the life span of the patient.
• Must be able to effectively and efficiently make use of time and resources.
• Must have strong computer skills.
• Must have professional and effective communication skills and be able to promote effective communication at all levels.
