St. Francis Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic is seeking an RN Patient Safety/Risk Management Specialist to join our team!
The Patient Safety/Risk Management RN Specialist manages, coordinates and facilitates the hospital patient safety activities. This position supports the Hospitals risk management activities.
Position Purpose:
The Patient Safety Officer/ Risk Manager manages, coordinates and facilitates the hospital patient safety activities. Supports the achievement of zero preventable harm for patients, colleagues, and the communities we serve, while protecting the assets of the Ministry. In collaboration with leadership is accountable to develop and maintain the risk management program. Provides risk management education to colleagues. Conducts investigations and identifies improvement opportunities for near misses and adverse events. Supports claims management activities related to incidents and litigated cases. Responsible for specified coverage lines encompassing all sites owned by the ministry and insured by Trinity Health. This position supports the Hospitals risk management activities and legal support to the Regional Director Risk Management and supports Senior Team in confidential matters. The Patient Safety Officer/ Risk Manager will (participate or Co)-chair/facilitate committees/teams as requested by the Quality/Accreditation Manager. Data collection and analysis skills are integrated to be utilized in the performance improvement (PI) process, as well as other responsibilities of the position. The Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory bodies including regulatory compliance activities are a part of the Patient Safety Specialist position. Engages in performance improvement projects to support Quality/Regulatory priorities in fulfilling the vision and mission that lead to regulatory compliance, high quality organization, patient safety, and operational excellence as directed. The Patient Safety Officer/ Risk Manager also helps support maintaining highest level of compliance with other organizations such as Leapfrog, IBM Watson, and others that impact quality and patient safety. Participate in quality rounds, co-chairs Quality/Safety Committees and help report data as required for regulatory programs. The Patient Safety Officer/ Risk Manager reports to, works in concert with, and supports the Quality/Accreditation Manager
What you will do:
• Event Reporting System Management
• Provides oversight and management of the event reporting system. This includes assuring that the event reporting data is accurate and complete prior to closing the file timely.
• Identifies and reports to key stakeholders events that are Serious Adverse Events, Sentinel Events, or potential claims.
• Demonstrates the ability to utilizing various reports within the event reporting system to obtain information/data/trends/etc. for analysis and meetings.
• Reinforces that the principles of Just Culture be adhered to during the event submission and management process.
• Develop and/or be involved in Frontline User training
• Captures and identifies learning opportunities from near misses and good catches. Encourages reporting so that prevention measures and best practices can be implemented.
• Root Cause Analysis Support
• Implements a system to track patient safety concerns and reports findings to key stakeholders including leadership.
• Enters or transfers into ClearSight any events that could result in claims.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Registered Nurse, Healthcare Administration, Business, Legal or Risk Management field or comparable education and/or experience.
• Master’s Preferred
• Experience: Preferred three years’ experience in risk management, quality management, or insurance related.
• CPHRM, ARM or other nationally recognized health care risk management certification required or within one year of hire.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills.
• Must be able to work independently and on a team.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, database management, spreadsheets, internet skills and e-mail.
