Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Unit

Job Description
The competent Nurse, in a medical surgical setting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to focus on long-range goals or plans. Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers to help manage the clinical situation.
Responsibilities
• Utilizes the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
• Adds to increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families according to their level of practice.
• Administers medications and treatments following appropriate protocol; monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided.
• Assesses learning needs and educates patients, family members, and/or caregivers while identifying issues and resources.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
• One year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred.
• Current BLS certification required (AHA only).
• Current ACLS certification required (AHA only).
• RN License in the state of New Mexico or compact state.
